What are the operating hours for the Makerspace?
Makerspace is accessible to 7C students, faculty, and staff 24/7. Stewards are available from 1-10PM from Monday-Thursday, 1-7PM on Friday and Saturday, and 1-9PM on Sunday. They can help with checking out tools or equipment and providing assistance. Questions can also be asked on the Makerspace Discord.
Who can access the Makerspace?
The Makerspace is accessible to all 7C students, faculty, and staff. Visit F&M, located next to Jay's Place, to get swipe access after passing the General Safety Quiz.
Where is the Makerspace located?
The Makerspace is on the ground floor of the McGregor Computer Science Center, at the corner of Platt and Dartmouth.
Where can I do metal/woodworking?
Visit the HMC Machine Shop! The shop caters to heavy-duty machining and is only open during proctor hours. Visit their website for more information: HMC Machine Shop.
How is the Makerspace managed?
A team of six student head stewards and the Makerspace Manager, Kim Neal, manage the Makerspace. Around ~40 student stewards assist users and manage the Makerspace during their shift hours.

Training, Tools & Materials
What are the required quizzes?
All users must pass the general safety quiz. Additional quizzes are necessary to use specific rooms or machines. Visit F&M, located next to Jay's Place, to get swipe access. Place.
How do I obtain swipe access to different rooms?
Swipe access can be obtained by passing quizzes and visiting F&M, located next to Jay's Place. Specific quizzes grant access to corresponding areas.
How can I receive welding training?
Pass the welding quiz and attend bi-weekly welding training sessions on Fridays at 4 PM. Join the Makerspace Discord for more information and updates!
How can I receive printing press training?
Join the Makerspace Discord and ask for a training session! You can also view our schedule to see when a steward with printing press proficiency is on duty.
Can the materials in the Makerspace be used freely?
Yes, all floor materials are available for use. However, class, club, or group projects with funding must use their own materials. Additionally, users may not use materials to make items for sale.
Why are some tools locked up?
The lock-up system allows Makerspace to host expensive or dangerous machines. For safety reasons, users may not access these tools after regular hours but can request a steward for overnight checkout.
What are the charges for 3D printing?
All FDM (filament) printing expenses are covered for personal use. Users may be charged cost for filament or asked to provide their own for research or club prints. The Markforged, SLA (Resin), or SLS (powder) printers cost extra, charging as per the material used.
What help is available from stewards?
Stewards can assist with project questions, safety quizzes, tool check-outs and provide training on using different tools and machines during their shift hours.
How does one apply to be a steward?
Stewards are hired each semester! Fill out an interest form here or watch for our in-Makerspace announcements when applications open.

How does one learn about workshops?
Workshops are announced weekly on our mailing list and on the workshops page.
Can clubs meet at the Makerspace?
Yes, clubs can meet in Makerspace. Please notify firstname.lastname@example.org to ensure no scheduling conflicts.
Projects & Funding
How can I obtain funding for a project?
All 7C students may apply for $50 per semester of project funding. Through the Braun grant, Harvey Mudd students may receive up to $200. Apply via the Student Project Application tab!
